ALASKA ADVENTURE 2024: Juneau - July 2

Juneau was an early day as we had our biggest shore excursion of the week planned. We got off the ship, snapped a quick selfie, and headed for our meeting place at the bottom of the Tram near the port. Along the way, we spied the first of many majestic bald eagles who make their homes around Juneau.

Our first stop of the morning was Mendenhall Glacier.

We only had about an hour to spend at this site, so we hurried off on the walking trails. First we went to see Nugget Falls:

Then we backtracked and took the observation point trail for Mendenhall Glacier where you could see both the falls and the glacier together.

After our tour of the glacier, it was time to get on another boat and go whale-watching! We went to Auke Bay to the humpback whale feeding grounds, and boy, did we see a lot of whales!

Incredible! After getting a good look at the whales, which included a young whale breaching the surface, we headed back to our ship. Along the way, we were treated to a sight of a black bear along the highway. Inspired by all the whales he saw today, Jon got one of the free premium desserts included with our package to try to become more like a whale himself!
